BHT (Full-Time) Front End Night Shift: Sun -Tues  & every other Wed from 7:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m. *Shift Differential

Under general supervision, the Behavioral Health Technician supports individuals and learning teams providing hope, encouragement, support, self-determination, and connection to the community. Acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of persons served. Provides recovery coaching and crisis support services to create a No-Force-First recovery environment in a crisis response facility.  Use of Recovery Coaching and the Recovery Pathways to maximize the opportunity to create recovery partnerships and a recovery environment.   Actively participates as a team member to support the needs and rights of every person. Respond to critical situations that may require restrictive interventions as needed.  Must be able to document according to agency, contractual and regulatory guidelines.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Provides a welcoming environment for new participants using the Recovery Coaching process.
  2. Connects with new participants to obtain identifying and referral information, strengths, and solutions sought.
  3. Provides peer support to engage participants in a recovery partnership based on the principles of mutuality and “being with, not fixing.”
  4. Models hope, personal responsibility, and self-advocacy by sharing his or her personal recovery story, how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.
  5. Assists participants in identifying their hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking by using the Recovery Coaching process to develop and record an individualized Recovery and Wellness plan.
  6. Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools (e.g. WRAP, WELL, etc.) individually and/or in a class setting.
  7. Cultivates connections in the person’s life (self, others, the environment and to meaning and purpose).
  8. Assists in developing natural supports and community living by partnering with each participant to strengthen valued roles (friend, spouse, employee, student, etc.) so a greater sense of identity is established.
    1. Contacts and involves participant’s support system
    2. Works with the person and others to arrange continuing services as needed.
    3. Partners with each guest to maintain a safe environment by performing tasks including, but not limited to:
      1. Participate as a team member to create an attractive environment (e.g. contribute to the care of the physical appearance of the facility)
      2. Safety/Wellness checks with guests completing required documentation
      3. Other duties as assigned. 
        1. Education & Experience

          1. Bachelor’s degree in a field related to behavioral health, or
          2. Bachelor’s degree in any field and at least one(1) year of fulltime behavioral health work experience, or
          3. High school diploma or GED and a combination of education in a field related to behavioral health and fulltime behavioral health work experience totaling at least two (2) years or
          4. High school diploma or GED and at least four (4) years of fulltime behavioral health work experience.
          5. Proficient in Microsoft office products; ability to type 30-40 w.p.m
          6. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

           License & Certifications

          1. TB test clearance, annually
          2. Therapeutic Options (TO) physical safety intervention training, annually
          3. Valid Food Handlers Card
          4. Valid CPR and First Aid Certification
          5. Successfully complete Pre placement Physical & Drug Screen

           

          Working Conditions:

          Works in a behavioral health out-patient facility. May have contact with people who are agitated and confused mitigated by de-escalation training. Works a standard work week but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to monitor program activities. Works includes travel throughout the geographic region.

          Physical Requirements:

          The physical requirements described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. Continuous standing; walking; handling; finger dexterity, eye hand-foot coordination; use of corrected vision; depth perception; wide field of vision; color vision; use of auditory, olfactory and tactile senses. Frequent bending over; stooping, kneeling; crouching; pushing; pulling; sitting; reaching; climbing/balancing on a step stool to reach supplies/equipment in cabinets; climbing stairs; carrying up to 25 pounds. Occasional crawling; running; pushing up to 250 pounds; pulling up to 250 pounds; lifting up to 50 pounds.
