Job Profile

JOB SUMMARY:

The Texas Health Steps Nurse Clinician is a Registered nurse who may provide TH Steps medical checkups only under the direct supervision, meaning the physician is either on site during the checkup or is immediately available to furnish assistance and direction to the RN during the checkup. The TH Steps nurse has completed the required training modules developed by the TH Steps and their knowledge base and assessment skills and competency has been validated through direct supervision by the physician program director. TH Steps nurses may provide comprehensive unclothed physical examination, immunizations, appropriate for age and health history, laboratory tests appropriate for age and risk, and including lead toxicity at specific federally mandated ages, health education including anticipatory guidance and dental referral.

Shift: M-F 8:00am to 4:30pm

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Specialized Training/Licensure: Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing; BSN preferred. Current RN license State of Texas, Completion of TH Step continuing education modules,
Nationally certified in a related clinical specialty within two years

Work Experience (Years and Area): 3-5 years experience in nursing-newborn experience preferred

Management Experience (Years and Area): N/A

Equipment Operated: Bilimeter

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Communication Skills: Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact); Bilingual Skills Required? No (Languages: Spanish-preferred but not required); Writing /Composing: Must be adequate to meet the following communication requirements: Accurately interprets and transmits clinical information in English, both verbally and in written form; and sends and receives messages patient/families/SOs can comprehend

Work Schedule: Weekends; Holidays; Flexible; Overtime; On Call

Other Requirements: May be pulled to Mother Baby Unit for newborn assignment
