Job Summary  

 

Aid in the oversight and provision of direct services and with the coordination of behavioral health rehabilitation services for participants enrolled in the agency's Supportive Living/Supportive Living Assertive (SL/SLA) program. The employee's primary duty requires knowledge of recovery serious mental illness and behavioral health practices, co-occurring disorders and treatment modalities. The position requires discretion and independent judgment in completing assessments and treatment plans. The SL/SLA Co-Occurring Specialist I spends at least 60% of his/her primary duty providing services to participants such as counseling, case management, etc. that require discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.  

 

Hours are 1 pm to 10 pm, Tuesday to Saturday.  Pay range starts at $15 to $17.16 (to qualify for the higher pay, you will be required to have extensive experience).  

 

Essential Functions  

 

Qualification Requirements  

 

  • Provides services to Title XIX (seriously mentally ill (SMI), general mental health (GMH), general mental health and substance abuse (GMH/SA)) and Non-Title XIX youth and/or adult populations.
  • Conduct co-occurring focused assessments and determination of recommended services.
  • Conduct and document individual initial and ongoing assessments which require discretion and independent clinical judgment.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in coordination with the individual and involved parties.
  • Assist participants in identifying and pursuing realistic treatment goals.
  • Participate in Adult Recovery Teams and clinical staffings as well as individual service planning sessions with the participant and involved parties.
  • Monitor and assess participant treatment progress and coordinate with internal and external parties as necessary.
  • Facilitate and provide assistance with community integration and mental health recovery
  • Facilitate and provide group and individual interventions as outlined in each person's service plan
  • Provide emergency face to face crisis intervention and or prevention as needed to avert or in response.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies, case managers and clinical teams and assist in the coordination of care with outside provider/parties.
  • Maintain information on community resources for consumer assistance and support.
  • Provide education, assistance and support to family members and others involved with the participant to enhance awareness of mental and emotional illness and to increase their ability to contribute to the rehabilitation process.
  • Maintain participant medical records, treatment statistics and other documentation according to agency standards.
  • Provide clinical input regarding program and services provided based on identified participant needs
  • Ensure clinical knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform job are maintained by attending required/suggested trainings.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and assessment of co-occurring and other curriculum for the SL/SLA programs
  • Actively participate in safety and wellness programs and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

 

Education/Experience:   

 

  • Must qualify as a BHT or BHP with specific experience and knowledge of co-occurring disorders
  • Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) based on the following criteria with experience in the field of co-occurring disorders (2 yrs preferred):
    • Have a Master's Degree or Bachelors Degree in a field related to Behavioral  Health.
    • Have a Bachelor's Degree in a non-related field and at least one year of full-time Behavioral Health work experience.
  • Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) based on the following criteria with experience in the field of co-occurring disorders (1 year preferred):
    • Current Arizona State Certified in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family, and/or Substance Abuse.
    • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or a related human service field.
    • Two years' supervised counseling experience with the participant population in a mental health center setting. Supervision must be documented and provided in advance of hire.
    • Relevant experience requirements may be decreased if the incumbent holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or a related human service field.

 

  • Bilingual preferred but not required

  •  Valid Arizona Driver License
  •  Valid Automobile Insurance
  •  Five (5) year MVR (driving record) that meets the agency’s auto insurance carrier’s coverage requirements
  •  Copy of highest education certificate or transcript showing graduation
  •  Valid CPR/First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire
  •  Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire

  • Behavioral health assessment and  rehabilitation.
  • Co-Occurring treatment and disorders
  • Serious Mental Illness, symptoms and treatment
  • Recovery
  • Principles and methods of psychosocial rehabilitation.
  • Special needs and characteristics of the participant population.
  • Counseling principles and methods.
  • Methods used to prevent violent behavior or behavior harmful to the participant or others.
  • How to provide behavior management in crisis situations.
  • Common side effects, reactions and interactions of medications commonly used by the participants.
  • Where to access resources for assistance.
  • How to document participant activities and progress according to accepted professional and agency standards.  

 

Skills:  

 

  • Ability to exercise independent clinical judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication.
  • Ability to oversee and facilitate clinical group processes, which address participants' skills deficits through specific content and focus.
  • Ability to oversee and facilitate recreational and social activities, life skills training and/or
  • milieu activities.
  • Ability to develop and implement  treatment plans within the framework of a clinical team.
  • Ability to promote client  responsibility, mastery, and recognition of symptom exacerbation
  • Must be creative, energetic, and professionally flexible to serve as a healthy role model for clients.
  • Ability to learn new software in a timely manner.
  • Above average computer literacy using Microsoft products and other related software.
  • Ability to provide behavior management and activity supervision.
  • Assist with the self-administration of medications held on behalf of program clients.
  • Operating an agency motor vehicle, other vehicle, equipment, machinery or power tools.
  • Performing duties in the residential or commercial premises of a customer or vendor.
