Job Description

  • Do pickups of donations and deliveries of goods for Food Warehouse and Thrift Store
  • Comply with and enforce all policies and procedures of The Salvation Army
  • Assist with loading and unloading donations and the proper storage of donations
  • Assist customers/donors with unloading and proper storage of donated items brought to the store
  • Ensure the that all donation to the store are properly stored in the appropriate location in a timely manner
  • Maintain a safe, neat, clean, and orderly working environment in all areas of the store and Food Warehouse, including the floor, donations area, break room and bathrooms while accomplishing primary duties and assisting others to maintain the integrity and structure/environment This may include accepting, sorting, hanging clothing on racks, putting out sale items in appropriate places, ensuring appropriate prices are marked on all products, assisting with placing sale items on display as appropriate, or other such activities from time to time such as returning empty hangers to warehouse or keeping housewares, shoes, or other items on display on proper shelves or racks. Stock and clean shelves, refrigerators and freezers at Food Warehouse
  • Maintain accurate time sheets that are turned in weekly
  • Flexibility and maturity in prioritizing duties and tasks in assigned areas while being self-directed to accomplish all assignments without supervision as needed
  • Give clear direction to volunteers and community service workers as to what they should and should not be doing
  • Work within the thrift store and corps environment and programs while maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of all customers, clients, volunteers, staff, and others
  • Maintain assertive communication in interacting, whether in routine duties, coping with conflict, confronting concerns
  • Problem-solving with other team members, supervisors, clients, customers, and others
  • Assist with work assignments of Community Service Workers and other volunteers as needed
  • Interact with supervisors, other staff members and Officers to determine how to be helpful and productive throughout each shift or day as duties and time allows
  • Accomplish other duties/tasks/activities/interventions as assigned when and as appropriate per all applicable standards, policies, procedures, communications, and/or directives so as to accomplish the Mission and Goals of The Army and Hobbs Corps
  • All other special projects or tasks as assigned by the Corps Officers or store manager
  • Work as a team player/leader and calmly handle job-related stresses/pressures

Skill / Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED equivalent required
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR record
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills when dealing with others
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Maintain a well-groomed and professional appearance, wearing The Salvation Army branded clothing, when dealing with the public
  • Treat customers/donors with respect and with courtesy at all times
  • Ability to prioritized work, multi-task, work well under pressure and be a self-starter
  • Ability to work well with and supervise others and to give instructions regarding the duties of others as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Service minded team player
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be punctual
  • Must be honest and have integrity
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is beneficial

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus.  The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
