The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) is committed to bettering health by streamlining science, transforming training environments, and improving the conduct, quality, and dissemination of research from laboratories to clinical practice, and out into communities. Our CTSC program offers a multitude of assets and resources, one of which is the Community Engagement and Research Core (CERC). The CERC represents an exciting academic-community partnership opportunity that will build upon strong collaborations with its partners and affiliates to improve the way health research is conducted throughout New Mexico. The CERC works toward improving the health and well-being of New Mexico's diverse population through collaborative and sustainable research that supports the dissemination of evidence-based practices to inform local health decisions. It also promotes the emphasis on clinical and translational research to facilitate improvement in community health, the training of community-based researchers, and the emergence of community voice in the direction and implementation of clinical research.
The CERC is looking for a research coordinator who is willing to travel throughout New Mexico to assist health science investigators in their community-based research projects. This person will be responsible for coordinating research studies in line with established study protocols and with federal, local, and institutional policies and guidelines for community-based research and clinical trials. Specific duties include recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling of research participants; quantitative data collection; developing and maintaining record keeping systems and procedures; and drawing and processing blood.
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to adapt to changing priorities, and provide support for a variety of research teams. It is preferable that this person be fluent in Spanish and English and have experience coordinating community-based research studies or clinical trials with diverse populations.
TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 03/31/2020; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING. The CTSC has over 35 years of continuous funding as a well-established NIH funded research center.
|Conditions of Employment|
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
· Able to speak, read, and write in Spanish and English fluently
· Willing to travel 50% of the time in New Mexico
· Experience with research processes, including data collection
· Experience working with Hispanic and/or Native American communities
· Experience interacting with members of a multi-disciplinary research team
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
· Basic administrative skills
· Drawing and processing blood (experience and/or training)
