The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
The CDD Information Network is seeking a full-time Family Specialist who will listen, research and respond to requests for information from individuals with disabilities, their families, advocacy groups, educators and professionals who work in the field of disability. They will utilize personal experience and knowledge of community, state and federal resources to provide assistance to callers and walk-ins to the Information Network.
This person will initiate written and verbal communications with community agencies, in person and over the phone, including contacting agencies regarding the services their program provides and updating that information in our computer database. Applicant will update and assign taxonomy regarding statewide agencies that provide services to persons with disabilities within the ReferNet database. This requires working independently and making decisions regarding the classification of services, as well as providing data for reporting. We will arrange for training regarding the database and our taxonomy classification system for this detailed oriented person with excellent communication skills and experience.
|Conditions of Employment|
High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Proficiency and experience in responding to requests for information regarding navigation of consumer-based federal and state disability programs, services and resources, including knowledge of effective search strategies.
Demonstrated expertise in effectively communicating with a wide variety of constituency groups, including people with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families and caregivers, staff of state and non-profit agencies, advocacy groups and policymakers.
Expertise working with computer software, including Microsoft Office and databases.
Ability to work independently to organize, prioritize and work independently on detailed projects to accomplish program goals.
Experience working with persons with disabilities.
Proficiency in speaking and writing in Spanish is a plus.
